Monday April 6th
Mortimer House and Derwent Edge
A lovely sunny day dawned and we decided to go to Mortimer House to do an easy walk from there. It was a Bank holiday, and despite the crowds elsewhere, we were able to park in the layby by Mortimer House with no difficulty. It is a pleasant walk along the Duke's Road, with extensive views and glimpses of the route along Derwent Edge. It was such a beautiful day and we quite quickly reached the first outcrop, where we stopped for a quick break.
Suitably refreshed, we continued along to Back Tor and shade of the rocks, where we had lunch. After a welcome rest in the shade of the rocks, we retraced our steps and got back to the car in good time.
A walk of 7.1 miles with 230m ascent.
