Hayfield and Little Hayfield
Rather optimistically as it turned out, we went to Hayfield to make use of a dry morning. Fortified by another visit to the Sett Valley café, we made our way up to the final approach to Lantern Pike. The wind was probably stronger than yesterday and the best option seemed to be to descend via the lower path and then wend our way back via Little Hayfield.
Clough Mill, which we pass on the way down, is still an impressive sight and a real reminder of the glory days of the cotton industry in Hayfield. We managed to fit in a "picnic" lunch on a bench before the rain started, with the sound of chaffinches, dunnocks making their presence known.
A walk of 4.1 miles with 300m ascent.
